binary options no deposit bonus december 2014 If you are looking for somewhere to test your 4WD and the parts it’s been equipped with, Australia has no shortage of places to choose from, it has an almost infinite selection of terrain and a plethora of tracks all over the country. One of the most iconic places to go is Cape York, the northern most tip of Australia and home to some extremely tough tracks and an assortment of different conditions.

payday loans online with no credit check direct lender We had two trucks set off in the direction of the Cape, the first being an Isuzu D-Max that had been kitted out with Bilstein B6 off-road shocks with prototype damper rates, the intention being to learn as much as possible about the new valving codes that had been developed. It was also running a prototype Polyair no drill bellows kit, so we could see how it performed fitted to a fully loaded ute towing an off road caravan.

It was also fitted with the usual goodies like a 40mm lift, 32″ BFG tyres, bull bar, lights, UHF, recovery gear etc. The caravan it was towing was a Nova Terra Sportz weighing in at 2.5t loaded, just to give an idea that we weren’t going easy on the gear.

The second rig was a Toyota Prado 150 series running the Bilstein B6 off road shocks with the standard off the shelf rate to prove that they still have what it takes when it’s put in to the test in real world situations. It’s also running Polyair red bags, to confirm load ratings and articulation on the fully loaded Toyota while it tackles the tough terrain of the Cape. Just like the D-Max, the Prado also had the other essential off-road components which included a 50mm king spring lift, 32″ Coopers, bull bar, winch, driving lights, awning, recovery gear etc. Behind the Prado follows a fully loaded camper trailer weighing it at 1t fully loaded.

You will see in the video that the shocks were firstly tested on the black top, although it’s not the most exciting part of most journeys in your 4WD, it’s still essential to make sure they behave well on the road because a lot of time is still spent driving in between the rough stuff. Another very important section of testing is high speed driving over corrugations and on dirt roads, this is to check damper rates and the level of grip while also making sure that the driver is comfortable when the suspension is reacting to lots of fast sharp hits.

The most aggressive part of the testing and arguably the most fun, is the testing that determines that the B6 off-road dampers, bellows and air bag kits all work in the really tough stuff and grip is still retained while the vehicle is stretching it’s legs. These tests are done with and without the caravan and trailer in tow, to make sure that the suspension articulates like it should so you can keep wheels on the ground and keep getting the power down so you keep moving forward.

Basically we have developed a damper in Australia, for Australia. Something that will handle all of the harsh conditions this country has to offer. Going beyond that, we made sure that we had first hand experience of ride quality and performance before signing off. The Cape is tough country and you should never take your rig off road without the appropriate recovery equipment. We have just been working hard to ensure you won’t have to use it as much.
